From 1 October 2026, a new tax on vape liquids comes into force across the UK. Here's a quick guide to what it means for you.
What is Vaping Products Duty?
It's a new government tax on vape liquid, set at £2.20 for every 10ml. It applies to all vape liquids, whether they contain nicotine or not, including e-liquid bottles, pods and cartridges.
How much will it add?
Because the duty is based on how much liquid a product contains, the impact depends on what you buy:
- A 10ml bottle of e-liquid or nic salt: £2.20 duty
- A 2ml pod: around 44p duty
VAT is also charged on top of the duty, so shelf prices across the whole industry are expected to rise slightly.
What's the new duty stamp?
From 1 October, vape products made in or brought into the UK will carry a duty stamp on the packaging. It shows the tax has been paid and helps prove a product is genuine and legal. You'll start seeing these stamps on packaging over the coming months.
Key dates
- 1 October 2026: the duty begins and new stock starts carrying stamps
- Until 31 March 2027: shops can still sell unstamped stock they already held
- 1 April 2027: every vape product sold in the UK must carry a valid stamp
Why does it matter to you?
The stamp makes it much easier to spot fake or illegal products, which can be unsafe. If you're ever offered vape products without a stamp after April 2027, steer clear.
